The Chattbir Zoo apparently has yet to finish a snake enclosure. Last year they had to release 32 Sand Boas into the jungle when a mother gave birth to them and they did not have room to keep them do to the enclosure not being done. They do have one Python at the zoo but the cold winter conditions require them to move it to a veterinary hospital during the winter. Work was started on the new snake enclosure in 2008 but is still not complete. Activists filed a complaint agents the zoo claiming they were misusing funds meant to finish the enclosure and according to the zoo an inquiry by the government held up the completion of the new snake enclosure.

Lizards and snakes oh my
I am getting so excited. Breeding season is right around the corner as well as the season for reptiles in the wild to wake up and amaze us like every other year. My time is going to be so strapped this year being mixed up in filming wild reptiles as well as breeding my own captive ones. As far as filming wild herps go I am looking forward to going all the places I can, Hopefully a drip or 2 down to S. America as well as other country’s will happen. I for sure plan on several trips to Nevada this year. Its been a while since I herped the Great Basin so I look forward to getting back there. Hopefully if luck is on my side I will be able to get together and herp with some viewers as well if I am near their location. Would anyone be interested in that?
Mother and child held captive by man with snakes
A Swedish woman and her child were held captive for hours by a man who said if they tried to leave he would unleash six green Asian pit vipers and two puff adders on them. Police were eventually able to slip in and free the woman and child and the man surrendered without incident. Animal expert Jonas Wahlstrom, director of the Skansen Aquarium collected the snakes and removed them. There were also 2 lizards found and police said the apartment had garbage all over it.
The reptile enthusiasts of Sweden need to stand up, we all need to stand up and work towards the common goal of keeping reptiles out of the hand of people like this. The vast majority of us are good honest people but there are a few who for some reason chose to do stupid things like this and put a bad light on us as a community.
I urge everyone to contact the local government in Stockholm with the contact info below and tell them a story of responsible reptile keeping.

HB634 which is being sponsored by Lawrence Curry after being asked by some Glenside Elementary School students. His previous bill made it to the senate floor but was never voted on. He praised the students teacher for going up and above in educating the students. Last spring the students traveled to Harrisburgto have a front row seat as the bill passed the house vote before being sent to the senate where it died.
Breeding excitement
Well its almost that time of year again. The snakes are warming and soon it will be time to start pairing them up and get excited for eggs and baby’s. I still have no idea which ones I am going to pair up. I am thinking an Albino male with the Okeetee female and then a Ghost male with the Albino female with the partial zigzag. I am super excited to be able to work with the zigzag pattern.
One of my YouTube subscriptions had a video up today of his Boa giving birth. After watching that I spent the next hour watching videos of every reptile I can think of hatching and really got the itch to start breeding. I also saw the SnakeBytes TV episode with the Dorothy Ball and to be honest I am still a little bit disturbed. Well I guess with that being said, the sooner I finish this and go to bed the sooner tomorrow will come and go and we will be a day closer to breeding. Dont forget to watch DRN tomorrow and pass it around to all of your friends. I am very interested to know what everyone is breeding this year so leave some comments below.
California ban lifted to import frogs and turtles as food.
Last March the CDFG was ordered to stop issuing importation permits for frogs and turtles for food. The ban on importation was original instated after a 15 year batter with animal welfare groups. The reason for the ban being lifted in short is because a small group of lobbyist say “the ban unfairly targets Asian-American business owners”. Sen. Leland Yee said it was part of the Asian culture to consume frogs and turtles.
