Bedtime Blog
Wow. I am so happy the week for the most part is over. Its been a very hard one. There are a couple of very big things on my mind but they are being saved for my next 2 videos, one of which will be up very soon. I have a lot of huge plans I am working on so this weekend should be as busy as ever. Its really exciting but scary at the same time because not only do these plans mean moving DRN to a new era but also changing the pace and entering a new era of my life. I totally love what I am doing though so I am sure this new direction is going to be a double dream come true. I just have to keep in mind where the fun is suppose to be and keep it there.
Pakistan Anti-venom Production Project
The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has started a project to produce Anti-venom to help people in Pakistan who get bitten by snakes. About fifty thousand people per year die in Pakistan from snake bites. About 90% of those who die do so because of the lack of availability of the life saving substance. They believe if it were produced at the local level that it can mean far more lives being saved. Currently they import it from India but its only useful for one type of snake bite. The believe that producing it locally they can make it available for all 4 kinds of bites that they see and not only that. it will sell for about Rs400. Currently the imported
Anti-venom sells for about Rs1,900
Ideas on fire
So a lot of people have noticed that the show has not run this week yet. This was done for a reason. I am currently reworking the concept and moving the whole thing into the future. I had a three hour meeting today about this very topic and it was just necessary to take some extra time off to work on this stuff. I am not yet letting the cat out of the bag as far as the new ideas that have been floating around these meetings but they are super awesome and mean big things for the future of DRN as well as the future of a new reptile venture that will come to light very very soon.
In other news I have been giving a lot of thought to this very blog and wandering if I should shut it down or not. Many of you already know that I am not a writer at all and find it very hard to come across the right way while typing. I am much more at home in front of a camera so I was thinking about just utilizing the reptivlog account more often and this blog less often. I may even incorporate the two of them with a vlog and a little text here on these pages. These thoughts are of a very low priority when compared to everything ells so a final decision will probably still be a month or so out still.
I am super excited about all the options and ideas floating around but unfortunately all the work that is going on means tomorrows show will be missing as well. I am trying to have everything on par for Fridays show although may still not announce anything by then. Thank you everyone for the continued support for all this time. The future is looking like a ton of fun from where I am standing.
No protection for the Flat Tailed Horned Lizard says the U.S.F.W.S
The United States Fish and Wildlife Service has said the Flat Tailed Horned Lizard will not be added to the Endangered Species List because its desert habitat in Southern California and Arizona is large enough for a self sustaining population. This is the forth time since 1993 that they have rejected pleas to add the lizard to the list stating that worries such as off road vehicles, military activity as well as urban development are not are bad on the species as previously thought. Each of the earlier withdraws from the listing was successfully challenged in court by Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife, the Sierra Club and the Horned Lizard Conservation Society. CBD legal director John Buse said they are trying to determine whether or not to push the issue further.
