The easy way to fix a bad shed
Do you know why you are here?
Do you know why you are here? Not here meaning home or at work but why are you reading a blog post within the reptile community? Why do you have an undieing passion for the topic? I remember as a child watching the Fence Lizards scurry about. I remember catching them, I remember falling in love with everything with scales. I remember the way we use to do it and then I fast forward to now and times have changed my friends. There is so much that goes on around our community that at one time was very unacceptable. I make myself sound old but back in those days we did NOT rape the wild, we did NOT chase the all mighty dollar, We didn’t care what the next thing was we just greatly enjoyed hanging out with our friends and doing anything reptile. My love for native reptiles turned into a love for exotic reptile which turned into a business. Let me tell you from someone who has been there. The business of breeding reptiles destroyed my love for them. So much so that after only a couple of short years I sold the business and got out of the hobby all together. I didn’t last long before refinding my passion for reptiles, always being in a business frame of mind it didn’t take long to start thinking about working with reptiles at a business capacity again. Now do I breed snakes? Yes I do but not for a business venture. Now my business is to educate and inform and thus far I love every minute of it. The tides are slowly starting to change within the community. More and more people are starting to take notice that we need to stand up as a community and be the change rather than sit and wait for it. DRN has been taking the bull by the horns and I have been caught up in daily meetings for 14 days strait with some of the communities top names discussing just that. It sounds a big rude but honestly we need to get rid of some of the scum that has surfaced in our hobby, get the fun back. Business is a great way for people to take part in there love but all to manly of them have learned to love the money and not the animals. I am super excited to be working with some of these people in trying to effect a change in the community. We are not going to sleep until the reptile hobby is once again fun and we can show the regulators and the public at large that we can responsibly watch over ourselves and everyone need not worry. It is with this that I am very happy to announce that DRN has been working closely with John F Taylor on producing a live show. This show is still very much in it infancy but will premier within the next month. It will be one hour every Saturday morning and feature education as well as guests from around the world who also share our love to educate, promote and be the change that this hobby so desperately needs. Keep a very close eye out as further details on time and location where the show can be viewed will be made public very soon.
Aroyo Toad gets habitat protection.
The U.S. Fish and Wild Life Service has set aside 98,366 acres of habitat for the endangered Aroyo Toad in California. The habitat stretches from areas of Monterrey to San Diego Counties. This new habitat designation ends a decade long fight between the USFWS and the Center for Biological Diversity over the future of the Toad. At the beginning the USFWS attempted to designate 478,000 acres to the Toad but this was scaled back after it was met from opposition from the public and private developers. The final designation for the arroyo toad includes about 72,596 acres of private lands, 21,982 acres under federal jurisdiction, 2,128 acres of state property and 1,660 acres of locally owned lands, said Lois Grunwald, a spokeswoman for the USFWS.
Frogs re evolving teeth
A new study says that the lower jaw teeth in frogs are re evolving after being gone for more than 200 million years. The discovery runs counter to a principle called Dollo’s law, which states that physical structures lost during evolution are never regained, according to Wiens, an evolutionary biologist at Stony Brook University in New York State. Scientists are saying this challenges the core idea of evolution itself.
Riding the wave.
I don’t mean to keep tooting my own horn and I am sure some people are getting tired of hearing it but it appears the luck gods are looking after DRN as of late. Each day just gets more productive and much better. I had a long talk with a friend today that has been helping me mold DRN into the success that it should be. We talk quite often and I am always supper excited about it because things are happening so fast. Today my first peace was published locally and that’s also an awesome thing. I am going to start really pimping DRN out here in my area and start working to raise awareness and educate as many people as I can, however I can. Slowly but surly DRN is making a foot print in the world and it feels so good. Even though this is still just volunteered time the satisfaction I get from the fact that people are “getting” it far outweighs any payment I could ask for. This is however a business and as such I think becoming a local influence is a good business idea for the long run. Well with that being said, tomorrows show is almost rendered, I am going to proof it then go dream some sweet dreams of success. I think the most important thing I can say to anyone out there who has a dream is just like the tittle says. Find that wave and ride it. I found it and no way am I giving it up, I am going to ride it all the way to shore until it crashes on the beach then I will go look for another wave.
Fire Fighters rescue reptiles
Kennett Fire Fighters rescued several Alligators, Turtles and snakes from a burning truck. The truck belonged to Ken Henderson “The Alligator Man” When fire fighters arrived Ken was attempting to unload the truck and sustained burns in the process. All the animals survived and were turned over to the Humane Society. I cant help but to cringe that the HS has the animals and I honestly hope Ken gets them back. The kind of love it take to rescue your animals from a burning vehicle is the kind only found in a real reptile enthusiast. Unfortunately here at DRN we know how it works and in short order would expect the HS the attempt to levy regulations, more than they already are.
